Nourish: to promote the growth of; to furnish or sustain with nutriment
My son didn’t sleep for the first four years of his life. Not in the way a lot of people say, like he wasn’t a great sleeper. I mean he simply didn’t sleep for more than an hour at a time and he had to be touching me in order to get that hour in. To say that those years were hard would be underselling the word hard.
I started to lose time due to exhaustion. I would forget what I was doing in the middle of doing it. My life was full of love, and yet I was failing to nourish myself. The path was not sustainable.
It is so easy to put yourself at the end of the list. The to-do list, the priority list, the needs list, the doctors appointments, the hair cuts, the days off, the list of what matters most in your life. When we spend our time doing and steeped in busyness, as is the case for many of us, we often forget to take care of ourselves. We fail to ask for help.
We forget to nourish.
This week let’s take the time to nourish ourselves in the ways that feel right for us, that bring us relief, joy, and peace.
