“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
- L. M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
I sat down to write about fall foliage and realized I had nothing to say. You see the leaves have not changed yet. We are waiting and frankly I’m losing my patience. I keep looking on my walks and out the windows. I don’t want to miss it. I have only lived in the north east part of the country. I could see myself move to other parts of the world. I am sure each part has wonderful attributes but I must admit that come October I cannot imagine living anywhere but here. I love the way the seasons change. I love the way every cheesy over said over shared over instagrammed quote about October and leaves and change is true. Year after year.
“There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on, and produce so pleasant an effect on the feelings, as now in October.”
- Nathaniel Hawthorne
As we wage a war, humanity v. nature where everyone loses, it is hard to forget the gifts that nature brings us. October makes us slam on our breaks and look in wonder. A simple drive to the grocery store can be totally changed and turned into a magical moment all because of a bright red tree. Alas, they are not here yet and I am at a loss and I am waiting, not so patiently, so I leave you with some quotes, tried and true. Because they are so true. There is nothing like October and I am thankful today and every day that we live in a world with Anne of Green Gables and with Octobers, even if this one is showing up late.
“In the entire circle of the year there are no days so delightful as those of a fine October.”
- Alexander Smith
